Private Peruvian Cooking Class in the Sacred Valley with Anilu

About this experience

Join Diego in his outdoor kitchen where he will show you how to make classic Peruvian dishes like ceviche (fresh fish cured in citrus juice), lomo saltado (marinated beef sirloin, sautéed with onions, peppers and fried potatoes), tacu tacu (rice and roasted beans), papa la huancaína (potatoes with a spicy, savory sauce), causa rellena (potato puree garnished with yellow aji sauces and lemon, stuffed with onion, avocado and tuna) or arroz chaufa (sautéed rice with green onions and sesame seeds, a chifa (Chinese-Peruvian) dish). You will learn how to properly cut the fish for the ceviche and how to carefully balance the flavors, and he will teach you some of his favorite cooking tricks.

Diego can demonstrate how to cook the dishes, or you can have a hands-on lesson. Just let them know your preferences! What better way to learn about a country's culture and cuisine than to cook with its locals?

Itinerary and highlights

Meet your host Anilú at her restaurant and B&B in Urubamba, in Peru’s beautiful Sacred Valley, for a private, hands-on Peruvian cooking class. Join Anilú in her outdoor kitchen and learn to prepare an appetizer and main course, choosing from traditional dishes such as ceviche, causa, lomo saltado, tacu tacu or arroz chaufa. Learn local cooking techniques, such as properly cutting fish and balancing the bright, citrusy flavors of ceviche or stir-frying beef over high heat for lomo saltado’s signature smoky char. After cooking, sit down together in the relaxed setting of Pakakuna to savor fresh, authentic Peruvian dishes while music plays in the background, accompanied by wine or traditional pisco sours.

Ideal for travelers looking to experience Peruvian culture through its food and cook alongside a local in Urubamba.
